Victoria Vics Recent Game Recaps 2010
Victoria @ Shakopee 5/28:  The Vics looked to open the Section 3B play with a strong win against the 2009 state champion Indians.  The Vics sent Alex Sommer to the mound and he looked good for it being early in the season.  The Indians got on the board first in the first and they then played even ball for next four innings.  Erik Winegarden had a good night at the plate with a double and hard single.  The Vics took the lead on a fielders choice of the bat of Chris Thulin in the 6th, but gave that lead right back in the bottom of the inning.  The Indians did not look back after that.  Conner Stremke came in to pitch in the 7th.  Vics lose 7-2.
Victoria vs. Shakopee 5/31: The Vics welcomed the Indians to Poppitz Field tonight on a holiday weekend.  Brad Everett took the hill which is a great sign for the Vics.  Brad has been out for the last year and a half with a shoulder injury.  Brad looked a little shaky in the first inning giving up a 2 run home run but then settled down over the next 3 innings.  He was taken out because of pitch count but had a great outing.  Erik Winegarden hit his first home run of the year.  The Indians were hitting the ball all over the park and scored 11 runs.  The Vics scored 5 in the 9th but it proved to not be enough.  Vics lose 11-7.
Victoria vs. Jordan 6/3: The Vics had their first meeting with Jordan at Poppitz Field tonight.  The Vics played a good game but just could not get that key hit with over 10 left on base tonight.  Tom Bergner got a rare start and pitched like he was in playoff form.  Jordan got on the board first in the 3rd but the Vics answered right back with a run of their own in the bottom of the inning.  Jordan then plated one in the 5th and three in the 8th.  The Vics did make a charge scoring 3 in bottom of the 8th.  At the end the Vics fell short and let this game slip.  Vics lose 5-4.
Victoria @ Green Isle 6/10: The Vics went into Green Isle on a 5 game loosing streak and needed to break out of the slump.  They knew they had to put together a good game against a 3-1 Irish team.  Alex Sommer took the hill and was the difference maker tonight.  He was on point for 8 innings only giving up 1 run.  He worked out of jams and made the right pitches in the right spots.  Greg Winegarden went 3-4 with his first home run as a Vic as well as turned a key bases loaded double play to get out of the 7th.  Green Isle threw the ball around and allowed the Vics to get 2 insurance runs in the 9th and Kyle Voltin came in and closed the door.  Vics win 5-1.
Victoria vs. Green Isle 6/11: The Vics coming off a much needed win the night before got locked in a great pitchers dual tonight.  Conner Stremke took the hill for the Vics pitching a complete game and looked solid throughout.  He walked away with 6 strike outs, 7 hits and 2 runs.  Green Isle sent their ace Mac Zachow to the hill who was on point all night striking out 12 in a complete game as well.  The Vics did threaten in the 3rd with a close play at home but that is as close as they got to scoring.  It was a very well played baseball game and the Vics just came up short.  Vics lose 2-0.
Victoria @ Green Isle 6/13: The Vics showed that they have the power and play to compete with any team in our section tonight 10 running Green Isle in 7 innings.  Duke Dudgeon took the hill for the Vics and looked sharp only giving up 1 run.  John Kuelz came in and closed the game.  Erik Winegarden hit a home run tonight to make that his 2nd of the year.   All around great game for the Vics with 1-9 getting hits.  The Vics take the series from Green Isle.  Vics win 11-1.
Victoria vs. Prior Lake 6/25: The Vics had their first game of the season with Prior Lake tonight and it was a chippy game to say the least.  Alex Sommer took the hill for the Vics and struggled a little tonight giving up 7 runs over 6 innings of work.  Their were no real highlights for the Vics in the hitting department.  Kyle Voltin took over in the 7th inning and gave up 3 runs over 3 innings of work.  The Vics lose 10-4.
Victoria @ Prior Lake 6/27: The Vics slipping in the sanding's really needed a section win to keep pace.  That did not happen tonight.  The Vics sent Brad Everett to the hill and the Jays jumped on him right away scoring 4 runs in the 1st inning.  They added 6 more runs over the next 8 innings.  The Vics did plate 1 run in the 4th and got the game with in 3 runs but then went on to strand 10 runners on base.  Tom Bergner took over on the hill in the 8th inning and the bats were fairly dry again tonight.  Vics Lose 10-1
Victoria @ Chaska 7/20: The Vics came ready to play tonight and you could tell this team is sick of losing.  They started off the game scoring right away in the first two innings plating 5 runs.  The bats were alive tonight getting 19 hits with non being larger then Erik Winegardens 2 yes 2 home runs in the late innings.  With those 6 RBI's and 19 hits the Vics were looking on point tonight.  Alex Sommer took the hill and had a great game on the mound.  He kept the hitters off balance and was throwing his curve ball for strikes.  He  got a little tires in the late innings but by that point the game was out of reach for the Cubs.  Vics win 16-6 in 8 innings.
